An Open Heart

An Open Heart

Acts 16:11-15

Having come to Macedonia at the Spirit’s leading, Paul and Silas make straight for one of the principal cities, Philippi. Yet we don’t meet the man of Paul’s vision or even hear of any great opportunities for preaching; the one encouragement they get is with a woman outside the city, Lydia, who becomes the first convert on European soil.

And, wonderfully, we read of Lydia that, “the Lord opened her heart.”

Monergism means that there is only one worker in salvation: God does the work alone. And yet here too is human responsibility: Paul and Silas brought the call and Lydia believed.
