Sermons on Christ's Return
Isaiah 61 anticipates an amazing announcement: the proclamation of freedom to the captive and joy to the mourning. This proclamation is fulfilled in the coming of Christ, who frees us to wear his righteousness and to build his Church in anticipation of the final day of justice that will one day come.
Christ, the Servant of God prophesied of in Isaiah, came to set things right. In his first and second coming he will establish justice on earth. Unlike anyone else, however, he will do this in gentleness and patience. In his triumphant reign he will not break the bruised reed or put out the smoking flax.
